I bought this to grind coffee as part of disaster prep. I'm trying to switch over from electric to manual devices, so if power goes out (I live in earthquake, tsunami, and snow country), I'll be ok. This little gadget is solid construction. Don't expect it to go fast. However, it grinds coffee beans with no problem. It does do a pretty fine grind, which I prefer. This is good for grinding smaller amounts of coffee, like with a French press. If you are looking to grind larger amounts of coffee, like for a whole pot or industrial pot, I'd suggest a bigger unit.
